July 2009 Newsletter

Twenty-three members attended our June meeting.

The meeting was short. Rain was the biggest issue in June. This caused much less flying than normal. Now in July, all the rain has finally dried up and the field and grass are in excellent shape for summer flying.

Even though the mid-summer months are normally a bit slower for field attendance than spring and fall, a regular crew of morning, afternoon and evening flyers can be seen at the field almost every day of the week. While rarely more than two planes are flying at any time, we were reminded that it is always proper to follow all of the field and pit safety rules.

Some rules, like calling out your intentions “Taking Off, Landing etc…” sometimes seem to be forgotten when only one plane is flying. It is always appropriate to call your intentions. Rob also reminded us that “cross field takeoffs” should only be performed if no other planes are flying.

Additionally, planes can only fly as well as they are set up and maintained. It is never the plane or the manufacturer’s fault for a glitch or a crash. Always do a complete check of your plane prior to flying it at the field. Regular maintenance and other checks like a “range test” (what’s that?) should be done periodically. When in doubt, feel free to bring topics up at the meetings or with folks who have similar equipment down at the field. I’ve never seen anyone who was unwilling to help a fellow modeler with a question or a problem.

Several members have informed us that they are not receiving the club emails. It is important to provide the club with an accurate email address when joining and to follow up with us if necessary. Other members may have changed email addresses over the years and not gotten that new information to us. Please send your email requests to mike@hvfrc.org to be included in our monthly newsletter blast.

The newsletter is also posted on our website about a week before each meeting. Topics for the next meeting include plans for our annual FunFly.

See you at the field,
