May 2009 Newsletter

Sixteen members attended the April meeting.

The addition of safety cages was further discussed. Several members gave their opinions and preferences on the matter. It was determined that further testing by the membership will be done prior to any rulings. Removal, or additions to the Field and Pit Rules for member use/non-use, will be discussed at a later time.

The field continues to be improved and is in great shape due to the persistence of the executive board and the vigilance of most of our members. Unfortunately, wind has much to do with some of the trash arriving at our field from the nearby street and factories. However, frequently we see trash left at the field by our own members. This will not be tolerated. Trash includes just about anything, but is not limited to, fuel containers, paper towels, coffee cups, water bottles, plane debris etc… You are responsible for removing your own trash!!! The executive board will impose cleanup duties, probation or member suspension to any repeat offenders.

We are cautiously optimistic that plans for construction in the immediate field vicinity will not affect our club. We have heard that a new building is planned for the area north of the field and some work will be done on the south side as well. Please be courteous to any inspectors, surveyors etc. who may show up or be working nearby.

New member, Jose Perez, was voted in. BTW: The new HVFRC hats are available. See Rob to get yours today! Also, has anyone seen our grill??? We believe it was stolen in April. It was donated, old and a bit rusted, but it worked.

Model of the month was my scratch built Miss Hangar One from Red Jensen’s plans available at: www.redshangarone.com. This car/boat/plane has since flown, successfully, even off the puddle on our field. Look for pictures and maybe a video (Thanks to Tom!) on our website soon.

Mike made first mention of our Annual Holiday Party. As always, we are looking for ideas and for volunteers to make this and any "Fun Fly" events happen. See Mike or a member of the executive board for more information about how you can help out.

And last but not least, we have a new pilot at the field. No, not another RC guy. Will Schlesinger solo-ed full scale cross-country by himself. Congratulations Will!!!

See you at the field,
